By many measures, 2011 has not been a banner year for the financial industry. Occupy Wall Street protests have spread across the country and the world, in some instances turning violent. MF Global has gone bankrupt and has struggled to track down millions of dollars. New regulations are forcing banks to increase revenue, but customers seem to balk at any attempts to raise fees. What's more, jobs and bonuses are being slashed across Wall Street, even as the holidays approach.

Given all this financial turmoil, FierceFinance wondered how CEOs at America's top banks have fared--financially, at least--over recent years. The following 10 CEOs have been ranked according to total 2010 compensation, the most recent year for which SEC data is available. The amounts include base salary, stock options and bonuses.
