BONY depending on savvy Mellon integration

The merger of the Bank of New York and Mellon Financial was a big deal in the custodial industry, creating an instant power. At the time, technology was thought to be one of the biggest areas of overlap. Isn't it always? Everyone knew that systems integration was one key to synergizing the product line. To read the words of Al Briand, managing director, in this interview with Bank Systems & Technology, the integration has gone well. He says the integration will be complete in 2009. The integration was less about costs than ensuring that the bank was left with "a best-of-breed operations and technology portfolio." Sounds good, anyway. But the technology is good enough that the bank is considering all kinds of white-label services for others. It just launched a remittance service that other banks can rebrand.
