Cell phones and mobile capture

We noted recently that Mitek and Fiserv were among the firms aiming to kick start a movement to use cell phones for mobile capture for deposits. They seem to be building some momentum--slowly. According to U.S. Banker, no bank has taken the plunge, but Mitek is optimistic that we'll see some experiments this summer. Mitek's ImageNet allows users to photograph "both sides of a check and send it over the carrier network to the bank. A back-office Mitek interface at the bank or processor handles fraud analysis and image quality before a check is accepted, and a user receives a text message that the check went through."

The ideal customer is a professional or small business owner on the go, who "frequently accept checks for services or deliveries while on the road." RDM Corp and mobile banking pioneer mFoundry both have plans to use the Mitek software in their services. So you have to wonder when the big consumer trend setters, like Bank of America, will start experimenting.
