We've noted before that data centers are huge energy hogs that Wall Street firms simply can't do without. We've also noted that more financial services firms are committed to greening their operations to the extent they can. So it only makes sense for more banks to operate green data centers. Citigroup just celebrated the opening of a 305,000-square-foot facility in Georgetown, TX, which houses Citi computer systems and components. According to Finextra, the center "uses pollution controls on its generators that remove 90 percent of the nitrogen oxides from the exhaust and native landscaping and irrigation systems designed to reduce irrigation water consumption by 50 percent." About 50 employees man the facility. This presages the opening of another even more "green" data center in Frankfurt.
