Core banking systems: The beasts
A core system upgrade is one of those issues that is never far from the minds of bank IT executives. You have to keep up with the times, especially if you're stuck on an aging system, mainframe or other. The credit crunch has complicated the matter. Forrester Consulting has now discerned a tier-ing effect when it comes to top core systems vendors. Its research suggests two firms are establishing a lead in the market: Oracle and Temenos, Finextra reports.
Oracle you know about. Temenos is much less of a household name. It was founded in 1993 and lists on the Swiss Stock Exchange. Based on 2008 data, Oracle and Temenos inked more than 100 deals between them. In the next tier, SunGard inked 16 new clients. Both Infosys and SAP seemed to have lost some ground. Forrester suggests that we may see some consolidation among the top vendors. The big will get bigger. The laggards will be swallowed up--or worse.
