IT execs fear retribution

Are IT workers a vindictive bunch? Well, you could make a decent case. If you've ever worked at a small financial tech firm, you've probably known a few of the tech guys who at some point started to think that "this company is effed were it not for me." At bigger firms, best practices dictate that you worry about segregation of duties and such to protect the enterprise.

But I never really thought that IT workers were a physical threat per se.  So I was surprised to learn that 75 percent of senior IT executives say they fear reprisal for laying them off in the form of "revenge attacks," according to the 12th Annual Ernst & Young Global Information Security Survey, duly reported by Bank Systems & Technology. In the financial services industry, the strong market did give the IT guys a sense of power, in that the job market was strong and salaries were going through the roof. So the crash may have hit them harder. The greater threat is likely not a personal attack but an attack on the system. You cannot take this lightly.
