Ready for the new data imperative?
A group of Sybase directors are doing their best to coin a new catchphrase: The new data imperative. It certainly sounds grandiose enough. In a ZDNet article, "How IT Can Save the Global Financial System," Raj Nathan, Irfan Khan and Sinan Baskan--three big execs--explain that the future of the global financial system is definitely at stake. And you don't want to find yourself not progressing on the data management front.
It's a high-PR-value way of talking about risk management, the kind of risk management enabled by having a better grip on your data in real-time as opposed to the once-a-day batch-processing approach. Sybase is not alone in pushing this approach. The whole world seems focused on risk management at this time. But the "real-time" component remains something of a grail-like quest. One of Sybase's clients has been able to move from measuring risk in hours rather than days.
