Settlement coming in code theft case?
The case against Sergey Aleynikov does not seem to be gathering much steam. In fact, some think the tea leaves do not augur well for Goldman Sachs, where Aleynikov worked before resigning to accept a job at Teza Technologies. He was accused of stealing proprietary code before he left. A settlement of some sort may be in the works.
Securities Investment News notes that there wasn't much actual harm to Goldman Sachs. In addition, Goldman would possible have to produce details about the code Aleynikov allegedly took. It certainly does not want to do that. So Aleynikov may be in the driver's seat when it comes to obtaining some sort of deal. The terms may be more favorable to Aleynikov that one would first have expected. The incident had some positive effects. It brought attention to data loss prevention technologies and raised the issue of proprietary code--if only briefly.
