The state of IT recruitment
Given the massive layoffs that have swept the financial services industry, you might be tempted to think that IT hiring would be a non-issue, but that would be a bit too simplistic, notes Bank Systems & Technology. While there are plenty of resumes flowing, lots of CIOs and hiring managers are confronting a tough hiring environment in part because the financial services industry has lost its cachet with young talented workers.
Gone are the days when the industry beckoned with the golden allure that at one point rivaled the dot.com industry. Unfortunately, hiring needs remain acute at many banks. And more top executives are waking up to the situation. One strategy that seems to be common is to drive home, to potential IT hires, how their job and career path join with the larger business strategy. They don't want to see themselves as worker bees. They want to know they are critical to the success of the company.
