Tech spending by banks in China
China's top nationwide banks have already embraced technology, and are now considered quite mature when it comes to infrastructure and customer relations. But not so for the smaller city banks, which are plentiful in the country.
A new report by Celent says, however, that even these banks are expected to be more active adopters of banking technology as it affects consumers. A lot of the focus will be on expanding the mobile and online service offering now available. This could be a win for American banks and banking services vendors.
FinanceAsia.com notes China Merchants Bank began using Deutsche Bank's FX4Cash electronic foreign exchange platform for its cross-border cash management operations. Agricultural Bank of China tapped Citi for its on-site check processing outside Greater China. One local goal here is for consumers to no longer be wedded to a specific bank or branch. That could open things up for foreign competitors.
